Celtic legend praises Gerrard for ability to bring star power in to Rangers

|

Celtic legend Kenny Dalglish has praised Rangers for the signing of Jermain Defoe this weekend, believing he will score a lot of goals in the Scottish Premiership over the next 18 months.

The Gers announced the acquisition on Sunday, with the addition of Steven Davis also adding more star power to Steven Gerrard’s squad at Ibrox.

Defoe is a legendary English Premier League goalscorer and while he may not have been playing for Bournemouth regularly of late, he is thought to still have the quality to make a big impact in the title race.

Writing in his Sunday Post column, Dalglish said of his arrival:

To have captured Jermain Defoe on loan from Bournemouth is brilliant business. Jermain may well be 36 and have had a number of clubs during his career, but I’m certain there will still be a hunger and burning desire within him to bring silverware to Ibrox.

He will score plenty of goals.

Make no mistake, Rangers being able to attract the former England striker will have had plenty to do with Steven. He has a great relationship with players from his club and international career.

He had an excellent career as a footballer and his CV isn’t too bad, is it?

Defoe hinted that his relationship with Gerrard was a key factor in his arrival with a message to fans on Twitter yesterday and it’s clear Gerrard’s status in the game has allowed us to make signings that had previously been out of our reach.

With Davis and the striker now confirmed, it’ll be interesting to see what if the club can bring in any more quality before the end of the January transfer window.

Creativity in the final third is still a priority, but if we can deliver that, Celtic have a lot to fear in the second half of the season.
