Striker Kenny Miller has spoken of his New Year’s Eve disappointment in the Old Firm against Celtic.

Hosting the old rivals on Hogmanay at Ibrox for the tie, Rangers went down two one on the day and the main disappointment for Miller as he spoke to the Official Site was his chance that came back off the woodwork as he knew had that gone in it would certainly have been a different end to the game.

The 37 year old explained.

‘We are devastated; I am personally devastated because of the fantastic opportunity to equalise. I will be going through that miss for the next couple of months, definitely the next three weeks, until we come back again. You just feel you need to get that bit of contact on the ball and it wasn`t a great contact to be honest, it was more off the heel than off the side of the foot but either way it is a terrible miss.’

He went on to add that he was also disappointed because of the effort his team mates put into the match and he largely felt his miss had let them down on the day.

‘I am personally disappointed in that but I am more devastated for the boys because we have put a lot of effort in and maybe it deserved to come to something. We had opportunities to give ourselves a bit of daylight and so did they and we also had opportunities to get back into the game as well. As a team we put a lot into the game, created a lot of good chances as well and so did they. It was a game which was won on a bit of quality and a few misses on our part where we had opportunity to maybe get shots off or play teammates in. But we never took them, we never made the most of the opportunities we had and they definitely did.’

As for his opener on the day though that did cause mixed emotions as he was obviously delighted to have opened the scoring in such an important match – his ninth in an Old Firm.

‘For my goal it was a good bit of play, we carved out that same opportunity two or three times and in the first-half we were getting a lot of joy down that side with good play. Fortunately enough for the first one I managed to get on the end of it and Waggy was a wee bit unfortunate not to get on the next one and at the end again Holty had a chance to put Tav in to get another. We were doing well down that side which is why we felt if we could have gone on and got that second goal it might have been a bit different.’

With the winter break now upon us he also spoke of his disappointment at the fixture lull as after a defeat like that he knew all the team wanted to do was to get back on the pitch and return another three points to put it behind us.

‘It is disappointing the break comes now off the back of a draw on Wednesday and an Old Firm defeat, which is never nice. You always want to get on with the next game and get that next three points but we have to wait now. We have to learn from that, I thought we were definitely better today, closer to them in regards to how they were playing and the opportunities that were created it could have been 4-4. We have lost the game and there is no getting away from that, it is an Old Firm we have lost and we have to look at it, get better and for me it was a better performance but the result is still disappointing.’
