Thomas Buffel could have played his last game for Rangers after injury ruled him out for the rest of the season.

The Belgian midfielder will have to undergo surgery for a knee injury, and that means he will not see action again this season.

It is thought that Buffel will be moved on at the end of this season, meaning that he could well have kicked his last ball for the club.

Buffel came close to signing for German side Hannover during the January transfer window, but it’s thought that his knee injury is one of the reasons he didn’t complete his move.

Buffel joined Rangers in the January transfer window of two years ago, in a £2.3 million deal from Feyenoord. He has shown some flashes of brilliance in his time, but struggled to make Paul le Guen’s starting eleven this season.

Walter Smith is willing to let him go elsewhere as he looks to build a mainly Scottish team. His last appearance came on January 21st, when he came on as a sub against Dunfermline in the 1-0 win.
