Rangers’ Robby McCrorie has received a call-up to the Scotland squad ahead of the games against Republic of Ireland and Armenia.

He comes into the panel as Zander Clark drops out, as does Liam Cooper – both of whom are set to get married.

Joining up with the national team camp is a boost for McCrorie in more ways than one. He is pushed into prominence and the big picurer ahead of these Nations League games, as much as he is unlikely to play. It also provides a talking point in terms of his Rangers future and the goalkeeper situation at Ibrox in the new season.

In terms of the call-up, it is not known if Jon McLaughlin was considered or available at present. There is also the line of thought that McCrorie could have beenĀ  preferred due to his age, a look to the future and the back-up status for Scotland’s last two games of this international window.

It has been suggested that at an earlier training camp, ahead of the final squad announcement for these June games, that the Rangers man made an impression with Steve Clark and Chris Woods, as vindicated by the update today.

The 24-year old, trained with the squad on Friday ahead of the short journey to Dublin for tomorrow’s clash, with the visitors favourites to secure the win ahead of a long trip to the Armenian capital of Yerevan in midweek.

After the win over Armenia at Hampden on Wednesday, nine points from nine available is well within Scotland’s reach to leave them sitting pretty at the top of League B, Group 1, whilst Ukraine with have the same intentions.
