The arrival of Rodrigo Becantur at Spurs, to the disappointment of Aston Villa could see Steven Gerrard turn back to Rangers and Glen Kamara.

With just under six hours remaining before the transfer window closes in England, it is so far so good in terms of no serious interest reported in Rangers main assets.

However, the emerging picture in the Premier League is one worth watching. Throughout this month, Becantur was known to be tracked by Villa who were also keen on Yves Bissouma of Brighton.

Birmingham Live have reported today that Villa have cooled their interest for now amid talk of a fee of around £40 million to land the Mali international:

“Aston Villa are said to be ‘relaxed’ over a summer swoop for Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma despite the possibility that Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur could also make moves.”

The same outlet had previously written of Rangers prized Finland nternational as being ‘viewed as an alternative to Aston Villa targets Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur’.

Late

Any serious interest and potential move at this late stage would be as dramatic as it would be unexpected with no soundings of a deal in the making from any mainstream media outlets.

The Summer window could be a different story, regardless of Rangers title outcome with a turnover of key players expected at Ibrox in the months to come. For now it appears that the champions will get through this month relatively unscathed in terms of the first team with only Nathan Patterson departed, in what was very good business for the club.

As for the rest of this evening, more signing news is expected to come from Auchenhowie providing a crucial boost ahead of the massive Old Firm clash on Wednesday with Rangers needing to bounce back and prove a point on the pitch.
