Bears, beers and the party in Prague – A story of what could have been

Aside from the action on the pitch, the pandemic has meant that Rangers supporters have missed out on another cracking trip.

The Gers have not faced Czech opposition since the Viktoria Zizkov debacle in 2002 when Alex McLeish’s side were eliminated at the first hurdle by relative minnows.

Big Eck and his team would later make amends by sweeping up a domestic treble in some style, particularly the last day, last-gasp SPL victory over Dunfermline leading to Barry Ferguson hoisting the trophy high – Rangers 50th Scottish league title.

Soon after, Lorenzo Amoruso and Arthur Numan would bow out after a Scottish Cup Final win over Dundee at Hampden, completing the treble.

Fast-forward to today and the fans are stuck at home, albeit still delirious after the events of last weekend and the confirmation of Rangers as champions after a long, sore period in the club’s history.

Could you imagine the party in Prague? Wow.

Pivo in plentiful supply in the picturesque Czech capital.

Budvar, Staropramen and Pilsner Urquell on the Charles Bridge with its panoramic views.

City squares filled with Bears from near and far, friends old and new, scenes of red, white and blue.

Following my most recent Euro away trips to Vienna and Rotterdam, both very enjoyable – the next one will be appreciated even more given all that has happened since including an aborted Leverkusen travel plan.

Off to the Eden Stadium (or Sinobo Stadium as it’s known for current sponsorship purposes)for the football, an away section of approximately 1000 would have been sold-out with other Rangers supporters striving for home-end tickets.

All that and more but it wasn’t to be.

For the forseeable, it’s as you were with dedicated, match-going supporters suffering the most.

It won’t be forever but the wait goes on.
