Rangers are nearly a week into the transfer window and, as yet, there has been nothing to announce, no new players and not much to write about in terms of rumours either, however, all that could be about to change.

As well as positive updates on John Souttar, Ianis Hagi and even forgotten man Nnamdi Ofoborh, Michael Beale revelaed that he has already held talks with potential targets and that we could see some movement in teh coming days, as reproted by The Herald:

“I want to sit in front of any potential players and look into his eyes. I want to meet a player and tell them exactly what I want and the role we want them to play. Any players recruited are here to do a specific job for our squad.

“I hope to be moving soon after this weekend’s game in terms of bringing people in.

“The two or three I have spoken to are very keen to come here.

“None of the three players I am speaking to are loan deals. Anyone coming in will be an important player for the next two or three seasons.”

Since replacing Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Beale has spoken about adding quality and making sure that those who do come in make us better, and it looks as though he is going to be a man of his word.

That he has gone as far as to say that they will be “important” for the next few seasons is also a positive sign given that – with everyone fit – we still have a pretty strong core of senior players and regular starters.

What this also means, if players are coming in this window, is that we will need to be spending decent money. January is never known as the best time to get a bargain and clubs are reluctant to let good players go halfway through a season.

Is the board finally about to loosen the purse strings? We’ll soon find out.

I can`t see us spending big in January .We could still be looking at the likes of Baccus and Raskin who wouldn`t cost big money . Whether they are what we need is another question.
