Michael Beale expected between 2-4 new faces in the January and, much to Rangers fans dismay, when only Nico Raskin and Todd Cantwell arrived, you couldn’t help but think that we were maybe one or two short. The league cup final against Celtic featured eight players from the 2019 encounter which gives as accurate an indication as any that he needed to be better supported.

One name that seemed close at the time was Morgan Whittaker, the versatile Swansea City attacking midfielder was the subject of more than one bid with a final offer rumoured to be in the region of £2million not being accepted.

However, speaking to GiveMeSport, former Sky Sports journalist Pete O’Rourke reckons that Ross Wilson could well return for the 22-year old when the window re-opens:

“Michael Beale is a big fan of Morgan Whittaker, and that midfield is going to be an area of the team that Rangers are looking to strengthen next season with a number of players out of contract.

“So, I think Swansea will find it really hard to keep hold of Whittaker this summer.”

The issue with Whittaker is that we have already been priced out of a move and, after six-months of playing at a higher level for Swansea, they are likely to want even more for him – even in the Championship players’ valuations can be way above anything that we could afford.

He is also under contract until 2025 so there is no chance of a cut-price deal, a good player with decent potential he might be but, there is no way of knowing if he has what it takes to step up to a club the size of Rangers and, when we are spending serious money, taking risks isn’t an option.
