BBC pundit and former Rangers star Kenny Miller believes Allan McGregor has been the best signing at the club this season and will play a vital role in Sunday’s match away to Neil Lennon’s Celtic.

Miller knows a thing or two about the Old Firm derby having featured for both the Gers and the Hoops in the fixture.

He is uniquely placed then to consider who might be our key stars when we visit Celtic Park this weekend.

Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent obviously feature highly, but when asked about our potential match-winners this weekend, Miller pointed to another – Allan McGregor.

As quoted by BBC Scotland, the Dundee striker said:

Alfredo Morelos is having an outstanding season. He’s not managed to score against Celtic yet and I know that’s something that eats away at him, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see that change at the weekend. His rate of goalscoring has been outstanding and he produces them on his own.

I’ve been singing Ryan Kent’s praises this term and he’s been one of the outstanding players from Rangers’ new additions this season. It maybe took him three, four or five games to settle in but since then he’s been outstanding. He has been a real threat any time he’s played.

But, for me, Allan McGregor has probably been the best signing that has been made this season. It’s hard to say that when you’re talking about a goalkeeper, but if you look at the points he has earned Rangers through the saves he has made, it’s not a contest for me.

Clearly if we are to pick up any kind of result this weekend then we’ll likely need McGregor at his absolute best. He had a bit of a howler against Kilmarnock last time out so he’ll be keen to make amends with a strong derby performance.

He has the ability to make saves no other goalkeeper can in the country and that ability is probably going to be tested.

It’s a huge match, with victory needed to keep any sort of hopes about pushing the Hoops close in the Scottish Premiership alive.

We don’t have much to lose though considering our current position and recent form, so hopefully the team can travel across the city and surprise everyone just like we did in December.
