Barry Ferguson remains somewhat of a polarising figure in his current commentary of events at Rangers.

The treble winning captain is an undoubted legend for his achievements on the pitch at Ibrox and even now that he is manager of Alloa Athletic in League 1, he still takes advatage of a media platform to air his views on his old club.

Some fans feel that Ferguson is way out of touch and lacking credibility in his comments whereas others point to his experience at the club, his winning persona and refusal to settle for less than the best as an example of the mentality that should pervade.

He has assessed the last week of trouble on the pitch for Rangers and has warned the players that they need to get in control soon, or else.

As reported by Glasgow Live, Ferguson stated:

“Three consecutive defeats constitutes a major problem at Rangers and anyone in there who thinks otherwise is wearing the wrong shirt.

At Ibrox, only one thing is acceptable and that’s winning.
“If there are players in that dressing room who think they deserve to be cut some slack because of what they achieved together last season then I’ve got news for them, it doesn’t work like that in this part of the world”
He added, with a pointed warning to the current crop:
“I do actually agree that a lot of what’s been aimed at them over the last few days has been an overreaction. But this is Glasgow – overreacting is our speciality!”

“You either learn to deal with it, or you crumble and allow it to completely overwhelm you.”

Challenge

That is not an option for the Scottish champions who need to assert themselves over the next few games to build confidence and momentum, as well as ensuring qualification for the Europa League group stage, ahead of the first meeting of the season with Celtic.

These players coped with the massive pressure of having to win the title last season and they managed it in style.

Now a new challenge is upon them and the poor early season form must be arrested fast, there is no other option.

Anything else will pose a danger to the great legacy that was established back in May with the historic 55th title win – it must be stengthened and built upon.
