Rangers starting line-up against Dunfermline tonight in the League Cup clash has thrown up a few changes, as expected.

Some players are simply rested whilst others miss out due to poor form, what it creates is an opportunity for certain players to come in and stake a claim for a run in the team.

Of particular interest is the changing of the guard on the flanks.

The experienced pair of James Tavernier and Borna Barisic make way for Nathan Patterson and Calvin Bassey, respectively.

Youth, pace and power should provide a formidable combination to pose a threat to Dunfermline, especially given how direct both players are – the rest is up to them to make such an impact that Steven Gerrard opts to stick with them next week, at home to alashkert in the Europa League.

This game is also massive for John Lundstram. The Liverpudlian has to show his ability and make an ipact on the game to build confidence and momentum to kick start his fledgling Rangers career.

Of course he is still in the early stages but he won’t be happy with what he has shown so far.

Up front, Kemar Roofe returns and he will be determined to make up for lost time as well as taking out some frustrations, following the health scare in his family – thankfully the situation with his newborn son is much improved.

Overall, the situation is that this game really matters for Rangers after the wretched last three performances and results.

It’s not ‘just’ Dunfermline or ‘just’ the League Cup.

A performance is due and goals are needed to get the Gers back on track.

At Ibrox tonight in front of expectant supporters, let’s get the job done and start the fightback.
