The decision of Rangers chiefs to confirm they would not be particpating in the proposed Sydney Super Cup has been vindicated further by silly stunts from certain media outlets Down Under.

It has to be reinforced that the vast majority of Rangers supporters and stakeholders do not care about what others outside Ibrox think of the u-turn from the board – this is primarily a decision about our club and its actions.

Today, Optus Sport reacted with the following:

As did this outlet and likely others:

The Rangers board have to shoulder the responsibility for getting into bed with Celtic in this way. It was always likely that they would seek to grab centre stage with the theme of a ‘homecoming’ for their manager and no doubt many outlets would be happy to do their bidding.

The egg on the face for our board was apparent from the leaking of the details early in order to keep other more serious news involving legal matters over historic abuse cases. Coincidence? I think not.

Then there was no announcement or acknowledgement of Rangers with Celtic’s own confirmation of the Australia tournament. All very predictable from Parkhead so why didn’t Rangers see it coming? Money. Or maybe they thought the oneupmanship and snide lack of professionalism from across the city could be tolerated because of the financial rewards.

Ultimately, the fan base and essentially the committed supporters, away support and organised groups were strongly opposed to this from the very start. Rangers just should not be playing Celtic in any friendly for various reasons. This oversight is a serious error of judgement and there has to be accountability.

The Rangers support’s campaign of protest against Sydney was about putting pressure on the board to do the right thing. To get the Old Firm ‘friendly’ scrapped – it has been successful.

In the coming days there will be plenty of takes from outside the Rangers camp but no-one will be listening to the vast majority of that noise. The correct decision has been reached, eventually, even though it should never have been required.

Support act , you mean the current champions , and most successful team in the world , plus no we are in no way a support act to a club who refuse to wear a poppy and whose fans disrupt the minutes silence at the remembrance service to the dead of 2 world wars , having observed a Anzac Day celebration in Australia I’m supposed your so eager to support such a establishment with such a shocking record
