Rangers have already began plans for next season when three acquisitions were made in the January transfer window, but recent speculation has seen Steven Gerrard being linked with further reinforcements for his forward line.

Britt Assombalonga – once valued at over £15million – has been touted as a potential target with the Middlesbrough striker out of contract at the end of the current campaign and said to be attracting interest from the continent as well as north of the border.

Former England striker and team-mate of the Gers gaffer, Kevin Phillips, reckons that a move to Ibrox is the most likely given the recent success and rising profile of the club:

“It helps when you’re the Scottish champions and you’ve got Steven Gerrard as your manager.

“Everyone knows the size of Rangers and Celtic in European football. That appeals to a lot of players.

“We’ve seen it so many times over the years, the amount of quality players who have played in Scotland.

“Rangers’ profile is bigger and they’re moving in the right direction. They’ve won the league, they have done well in Europe and players want to be a part of that. It makes them really attractive to a lot of players.”

Steven Gerrard has been a definite factor in signing players over the last few years without him we don’t get Ryan Kent, Joe Aribo, Jermain Defoe and probably a whole load of other players that have taken us to the title but now that we are heading for the Champions League, there is another carrot to dangle in front of players for whom that would normally be out of reach.

In what year did Allan McGregor make his Rangers debut?

Ross Wilson has already worked wonders but, with an added incentive to negotiate with, hopefully we will be able to further strengthen what is already a well balanced and talented squad and one that can take us onto the next level, a striker with 131 goals in 344 games would certainly do that.
