Former Rangers centre-half Carlos Cuellar announced this week that his time in Israel had come to an end as he leaves Beitar Jerusalem, and a number of Rangers fans appear to have made a leap and want manager Steven Gerrard to bring him back to Ibrox.

The now 37-year-old only made the move to the club in July, and he did make two appearances for them in the Europa League qualifying stages as they lost 2-1 on aggregate to Georgian outfit Chikhura Sachkhere, but on Wednesday he took to social media to explain his departure from them.

I have no idea on why his time there has come to end, but having had a stand out season for us, notching up 55 appearances before his big money move to Aston Villa back in the summer of 2012, and the high regard he continues to be held in it’s an easy link to make and I see why fans have commented they way they have as a few months back some hoped he’d return as well.

Especially as his own announcement shows he’s on the lookout for another club now.

Had we not signed Gareth McAuley there’s probably more chance it might have come off, but I can’t see us adding now.
