Today marks the 50th anniversary of Barcelona 1972 when Rangers beat Dynamo Moscow to lift the European Cup Winners’ Cup.

When Colin Stein scored one, Willie Johnston two. John Greig the captain went up to lift the prize, the year was 1972 in the merry month of May…

The historic achievement has been immortalised in song with lyrics such as those above. It was and remains the club’s greatest achievement in Europe, despite that very nearly being eclipsed last week but it just wasn’t to be. That win 50 years ago remains the benchmark.

Regardless, today’s anniversary is all about Barcelona 1972 and the achievement of that team. The honour is theirs.

In recent weeks in Glasgow, a premiere screening took place to mark the launch of Rangers 72 – a collaboration between production company The City Talking and Rangers, with centre stage being held by those heroes and legends whose names and achievements are cherished dearly by Rangers supporters.

The feature length film is now available on the link, below.

Director Giuseppe De Luca said of the production:

“Rangers’ journey to lifting the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1972 is a story with a special club at its heart, of ordinary people doing extraordinary things, of circumstance and courage; this is football at its most relevant.”

“I feel truly privileged to have been able to capture this story and share it with an audience.”
