£1.8m-rated midfielder wants to sign for Rangers

Charlie Adam in action for Stoke City

Former Rangers midfielder Charlie Adam wants a return to Ibrox, outlining his hopes to be part of Steven Gerrard’s squad on Sky Sports this morning.

Currently at English Championship side Stoke City, where he’s struggling to find regular football, the £1.8m-rated (Transfermarkt) Adam has left no-one in any doubt about where he wants to play out the remainder of his career.

As quoted by Sky Sports, the 32-year-old said:

If it was an option, there’s something there. It’s a wonderful club and I had great times there.

It’s a big club, still as well. Obviously, Steven Gerrard’s there, and he seems to be enjoying it. You want to be part of something special.

He has an aura and a presence. If there was an opportunity to go back then great. I think it might be difficult given the number of players that they have, but you never know in football.

In all honesty, a move for Adam wouldn’t exactly excite me when the January transfer window opens, even if he would be available on the cheap due to his contract expiring next summer.

We already have experienced options like Scott Arfield in the middle of the park and Gerrard prefers to litter his starting eleven with youthful prospects, rather than past it former Premier League players.

The fact he has just 55 minutes of league football under his belt this season doesn’t exactly fill me with confidence either.

Adam went on to have a great career after leaving Ibrox, but I can’t see him making a big impact if he were to return, so I’d pass on this one, even if he has a passion to pull on the Gers strip again.
