Rangers fans aren’t convinced a move for Dominic Solanke is the right way to approach January’s transfer dealings, as long as Alfredo Morelos remains at the club.
The Liverpool forward has again been strongly linked with a move to Ibrox this weekend, with The Scottish Sun reporting that he is set to sign on loan, with Umar Sadiq heading back to Roma.
In theory it sounds like a fantastic signing, but when you consider the tactical realities, there are potential problems.
It has become clear that Morelos much prefers playing as a solo striker than with a partner and the Colombian’s form is simply too good to consider dropping him, for a player as talented as Solanke or not.
The 22-year-old has taken Scotland by storm this season, scoring 16 goals already.
Is signing direct competition the way to manage him? Are the club expecting him to move on when the transfer window opens?
If the status quo remains, many are unconvinced by the Solanke signing, taking to Twitter to discuss their thoughts on it all…
Bit concerned about this Solanke loan, these deals always have a must play clause and this could hinder Morelos’s development imo. Be a welcome addition of course #RangersFC #WATP

Solanke is a very interesting link and obviously has a lot of talent, but I don't see how he signs unless Morelos leaves in January or we move to 3-5-2. Liverpool will insist he plays every week. https://t.co/ZBX3VT02dl

I would be very surprised if we do sign solanke on loan, no chance he plays regularly ahead of Morelos so we would have to change system as well as hoping the two could form a partnership. Seems a strange signing to me.

I don’t doubt solanke is a quality player but Morelos can’t play in a 2 up front system so what happens? Both are too good for one of them to sit on the bench

The Solanke link is interesting, with Sadiq less than useless and Lafferty not quite working out, we do need a striker. However Morelos is that good he won't be replaced and with Gerrard quite resistant to change from 433, where would Solanke fit? https://t.co/soHu0MFkfO

I’ll be gobsmacked if the Solanke loan happens. He won’t be playing second fiddle to our first pick Morelos

I’m all for managers talking down transfer plans for January but is Gerrard seriously thinks this squad is good enough to win the league then he is deluded. We badly need a creative midfielder, a number 10 and a striker. Davis fits the bill, Solanke is a no, he’s done nothing.
