Rangers fans were given a transfer teaser at the weekend when Steven Gerrard suggested that there could be new faces through the door this week with Bongani Zungu expected to be one of them, however, it came as something of a surprise when Cedric Itten and Kemar Roofe were paraded at the Rangers Training Centre.

According to a report in The Scotsman, the Gers have agreed a fee with Amiens for the midfielder, but, as yet, there is still work to be done with regards to his personal terms.

Rumours had began to circulate on social media that it was a failed medical that had held up the deal based purely on the 27-year old’s recent history with regards to a serious knee injury suffered a couple of seasons ago.

Ross Wilson and the recruitment team will now be able to fully focus on strengthening the midfield with cover secured for recent departures, Niko Katic’s unfortunate injury and Alfredo Morelos’s potential departure.

Rangers lost out last season after the winter break because of a lack of goals and many might feel that the additions of Roofe and Itten could be enough to close the gap on Celtic, however, Gerrard has been looking for an additional spark and creativity from midfield and if terms can’t be agreed for Zungu, there could yet be another surprise up the sleeve of Wilson et al.

There has certainly been a higher calibre of player attracted to the club than the ones suggested by the Scottish media, and all eyes will be on social media over the next few days to see if the 24-cap South African international boards a plane for the UK once again.
