Woeful Gers in Dons stalemate

Rangers could only narrow the gap at the top of the SPL by two points, thanks to another disappoiting 0-0, this time with Aberdeen.

It was more or less the story of our season – a decent start with easily 6 or 7 excellent chances that were not taken – followed by a second-half display that was an utter embarassment.

Jerome Rothen has his most effective outing in a blue jersey yet but was denied by three good saves from the in-form Jamie Langfield, including a cracking 20 yard shot and a powerful free-kick.

Nacho Novo also spurned an excellent chance after Rangers counter-attacked an Aberdeen corner, only for Langfield to come out on top of the one on one.

Two chance for substitute Kris Boyd towards the end after some relentless pressure from the visitors was about as close as we came there-after.

Rangers were dire in the second half – a huge concern given the back to back 0-0’s that preceded this one, leaving us with a surmountable gap to close at the top – but a gap that is still too large for this stage of the season.

For a side who have only made one addition in personnel in over 12 months, the lack of cohesion, poor passing and lack of fight, particularly from midfield to front, is inexcusable.

A daunting visit from Spanish cracks Sevilla awaits tomorrow evening…….better is not only demanded – it’s expected.
