There was reason for Rangers fans to cheer on Wednesday afternoon as reports surfaced suggesting that Eduardo Herrera had been moved on this month on another loan spell.

With no future at Rangers, Herrera has turned into a very expensive gamble for the club following his reported £1.5million arrival back in the summer of 2017, and with only two starting appearances to his name, with an additional 20 showings from the substitutes bench, the 30-year-old Mexican is a long way off paying the club back, with only two goals scored.

With life up at Ibrox, he didn’t enjoy a decent loan spell in the first half of the year as he returned to former side Santos Laguna and having now moved to Necaxa until the end of the season, we’ll be hoping he impresses so we can at least claw back some of the outlay – especially in light of his reported wage he’s on.

Fellow flop Carlos Pena had a recent failed spell with Necaxa and with both reportedly on a combined £50,000 a week, manager Steven Gerrard’s strengthening so far this month should be applauded with that outlay hanging around the neck of his playing budgets.

We’ll be in a much healthier position if we see a few more departures before the January transfer window closes.
