Following on from the three one loss to St Johnstone in our last match, manager Mark Warburton has said that Rangers won’t change their style but given he could put each of their goals down to errors on our part, we will certainly show improvement.

Speaking to the Official Site ahead of the Morton clash tomorrow afternoon, Warburton looked back to the defeat and explained.

‘No one wants to lose a game of football, it’s as simple as that. So we were frustrated on Tuesday evening and we were back in on Wednesday and discussed it all, analysed the game and the footage and moved on from there. We made three errors basically. For the first goal we stop the cross, the second goal our shape wasn’t right from the corner, a couple didn`t do their jobs, and the third goal doesn`t happen. But the players involved in that have been outstanding for us this season with minimal goals scored against us. So we only learn from mistakes, we have to learn from our mistakes, or suffer mistakes to move forward.’

Moving onto Morton more specifically, Warburton went on to add that given our possession and chances in the game, he felt on another day if we had been more clinical we would’ve certainly made more of a match of it, so there’s nothing wrong with our style or approach – it’s about cutting out errors and getting back to putting chances away.

‘That’s how we play football. What do we do, do we change the whole way we play because of one result? I’m amazed at some of the comments I read about ‘will you change this?’ We’ve won 11 out of 11, we’ve played well and we’ve missed numerous chances on top of the goals we scored. That’s not arrogant, that not disrespectful, we’ve played some good stuff early in the season. Why would you possibly change everything?’

Warburton added again that individual errors and a lack of ruthlessness in front of goal was what cost us, so it many ways with our results so far it was a ‘bad day at the office’ so there’s nothing to be gained by going overboard and not sticking with what has worked previously.

‘We put our centre-halves and defenders under a lot of pressure with the way we play. We do commit our full backs forward and we look for balance from the full backs and the holding midfielder. But we do put them under pressure, they are challenged and we need players who can stand up to that challenge. We had similar feedback last year from the players about 2v2 sometimes. Well, deal with it and they are good enough to deal with it. I’ve got no doubts about the qualities of Rob and Danny, they’ve been excellent so far this season and will be excellent all the season ahead.’

With that challenge comes the potential for learning and improvement though and that’s what the gaffer wants them to focus on.

‘I’ve got no doubts about that at all, it’s just about them being challenged as players and learning from every game. We’ve conceded very few goals this season. They’ve done their job on various surfaces against various opposition, so we’re delighted with them. And don’t forget, and we said to them after the game on Tuesday, we’ve been together less than three months.’

He ended his interview by saying.

‘If we had doubts within our camp then I’ve got no problems letting you know that. From our perspective we were frustrated at losing a game of football, angry and it spoils your day off that’s for sure. But the anger now is channelled towards a good performance at the weekend.’
