Goalkeeper Jak Alnwick won’t be given a Rangers opportunity this summer, according to website Football Insider, even if Wes Foderingham is also moved on by manager Steven Gerrard.

Alnwick has spent the season out on loan at English League One side Scunthorpe United and by all accounts has had an impressive campaign.

Still just 25 years of age, his contract at Ibrox doesn’t expire until 2020, but the club will look to offload him during the upcoming transfer window, says the report.

A permanent exit is preferred, but if that does not transpire the club will look to send him back out on loan, reckons the outlet.

Alwnick signed for the club in January 2017, one of former Mark Warburton’s last transfers before being sacked. He has made just 11 appearances for the first-team.

Allan McGregor is obviously number one choice in Steven Gerrard’s squad right now, but with the future of Foderingham in doubt, some had wondered whether Alnwick might slot in as the team’s number two choice.

Clearly though that is off the table and his exit now looks imminent.

Should Rangers keep Alnwick around as back-up to McGregor? Have your say in the comments below…
