Left back and Scotland international Lee Wallace has grabbed a brace of Awards at Rangers End of Season Awards dinner.

The 26 year old has scored three times this season but he moves forward have been a key feature for the squad this season, and he has been named the Player of the Year for this season as well as the Players’ Player of the Year.

Speaking to the Official Site after the presentation, despite ending the season on a low with injury, his performances over the course of the campaign have more than merited the acknowledgement.

‘I can’t describe the feeling I have at the minute, I’ve total appreciation for the Players’ Player award because that’s voted for by the guys. I play with them day in, day out and then we try and win games as a group. We’ve been really successful this season.’

Wallace goes on to say that now only being one step off the ‘big time’ and where we want to be again everybody is on a high and getting excited about pushing the club into the top flight once more and then trying to be as successful as we can be once we are back there.

‘It’s a massive honour to receive both awards and it’s a real privilege. I’m really enjoying things at Rangers and I’m ready for any challenge we face.’

Fraser Aird’s efforts over the season were also recognised as he was named our Young Player of the Year award and the 19 year old has become a regular in the second half of the campaign after impressing when called upon – scoring seven times.

He said of the award.

‘I’m delighted. I had my first start at Arbroath in November and I’ve kicked on from there. I had 20 starts in a row which was a massive achievement for me. I’m really happy with how my season has gone. The gaffer has shown a lot of faith in me.’

Aird goes on to say that he has to credit his colleagues for spurring him on and supporting him in the first team and in training with advice and encouragement as he knows without them, he wouldn’t have been acknowledged with the award, but he knows now it’s about kicking on further next season and developing more.

Goal of the Season was given to Ian Black for his goal against Forfar last month, and of course Jon Daly picked up the Sam English Bowl for finishing as our leading league goal scorer.
