Rangers boss Mark Warburton has confirmed Lee Wallace should be fit to return in the Scottish Cup against Motherwell on Saturday with Joe Garner back in a few weeks.

Wallace sustained a hamstring injury in the victory over Inverness on Christmas Eve so the captain had to sit out the final Rangers games played – including Celtic of course – ahead of the winter break. However, the 29 year old is now back in training with the left back poised to return at Ibrox.

Warburton – who is obviously delighted to have Scottish international Wallace fit again – told the Official Website.

‘Lee is fit, he will be back training [on Tuesday], he trained with the rest of the squad on Saturday and will be available for selection, touch wood, for the weekend so he will train with us all week. Lee is a good athlete and we’re looking forward to welcoming him back.’

As for the news on Garner the worse had been feared when he was injured in the defeat against Celtic on New Years Eve. Despite suffering a dislocated shoulder this isn’t as serious as it could have been.

Garner doesn’t – with a scan determining this – require any surgery so the boss believes the 28 year old should return in two-three weeks.

‘The scan [on Garner’s shoulder] revealed the damage to be not too serious but obviously he has dislocated his shoulder so there is a period of rehabilitation. Joe will hopefully be back training within a week or so and then back with us within two or three weeks. There is no surgery required right now. There is always a risk involved in it but the specialist and our medical team are happy with that risk and we’ll see how he goes.’

It was also confirmed Joe Dodoo had ‘tweaked a groin in training’ so could be doubtful for the Scottish Cup game but Emerson Hyndman and Jon Toral should be involved in some way as they look to make a mark at Rangers.

Warburton wasn’t ruling out the potential to do one more deal this month. However, the boss – who also left the door open to a possible departure or two – said he wasn’t in the market for anyone at the moment.

‘If we can get the right one then we will move but the right ones are few and far between. Whether anyone goes out depends. You never ever know in the market but right now no.’
