Martyn Waghorn has said that he’ll be assessed by manager Mark Warburton ahead of the Alloa game this weekend, in case he can make his Rangers return.

Speaking to the Official Site as he spoke to the media following his nomination for the PFA Championship Player of the Year award, Waghorn said he felt he’d made good progress on his return to fitness following the knee injury he sustained in February, and it was now a decision for the manager as to whether he would return to the match day squad.

Our 28 goal top scorer explained that saying he was ready for a return this week, was actually possible, despite his high spirits in earlier interviews.

‘I trained on Thursday and will be back with the boys on Friday morning and we will see how it goes for Saturday. I will see if the gaffer thinks I can maybe get involved in the squad and we will go from there. Everything is going well and I`m on course for the final so I`m really pleased.’

He went on to say that given his form since his summer arrival, being out and especially for so long had been tough – especially being in the stands for the Petrofac Final win and the Old Firm Celtic match, but he can’t wait to get going again now.

‘It has been tough, being in the stands for the day we won the league, the Petrofac Final and then especially the Old Firm. But the squad we have got and the togetherness just meant I felt one of the lads still. It was disappointing not to be in my kit but I was still first on the pitch, running down the by-line and getting pied by Wes – it was a good day!’
