Celtic, briefly pegged back in the second half, eventually ran out 3-1 winners over Kilmarnock. A 29th win from 32 Scottish Premiership games for the champions opened up a 26 points lead advantage on Aberdeen.

Hamilton lost an early lead but having managed to survive the second half with just 10 men they will probably take a 1-1 draw with Ross County – this took Academical above Motherwell, out of the relegation play-off position.

Hearts brought an end to their three game losing run with a 1-0 victory over struggling Dundee – just a point above the relegation play-off place – at Tynecastle. This strengthen the Jambos’ grip on fifth and keeps alive the hopes of catching St Johnstone, fourth.

Inverness are now four points from safety after 10 man Caley – who conceded twice after a late sending off – were beaten 3-0 by fourth-placed St Johnstone, who recorded a fourth win in five.

A top six finish – for the first time in the Premiership – was secured by Partick following a 1-0 win at struggling Motherwell. Thistle could still manage fifth whereas Well dropped into an unwanted relegation play-off position.

Three goals in four minutes late on saw Aberdeen’s 10 game unbeaten run at Pittodrie ended by Rangers – this 3-0 saw the Gers close the gap on the second-placed side to nine points. However, the Dons’ goal difference is worth another point.
