The Scottish Premiership season continued with the latest round of games played over the festive season to end 2016.

Celtic – even before these games really – almost certainly wrapped up the title as they hold a 19 point lead going into 2017. Inverness are bottom a point behind fellow strugglers Hamilton.

Here’s a round up of the Scottish Premiership action from the other games played.

Aberdeen’s 1-0 win at Hearts on Friday meant the Dons closed the gap on 2nd place Rangers to two points at the time with a third straight win. The Jambos’ poor run of form – they’ve won only once in six means they drop six behind 3rd Aberdeen with their 4th place at risk.

It started so well for Rangers against their rivals with an early goal putting the Gers ahead. However, champions Celtic hit back to win 2-1 to add another victory to their winning run and extend the lead at the top to 19 points – this all but wraps up the title at the turn of the year!

A four game losing run was ended but Hamilton had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Motherwell after Well scored an added time equaliser to deny the home side a crucial three points.

Dundee recorded something of a surprise 3-0 win against St Johnstone – who missed the chance to claim a joint share of 4th with Hearts.

The unbeaten run was extended to three but Partick couldn’t make the most of home advantage as Thistle were held to a 0-0 draw by Kilmarnock, which meant they dropped to 7th.

A five goal thriller saw Ross County edge out Inverness Caledonian 3-2. The home sides ended a two game losing run to move into the top half of the table whereas Caley are now without a win in 10 and end 2016 bottom.
