Rangers’ Scottish Championship season continued with a win at Ibrox against Alloa on Saturday.

A perfect reaction to the defeat at Hibernian was seen as Rangers, with a double from Waghorn with others from Tavernier and Clark seeing the Gers to a four-nil win over Alloa, who ended with 10-men with Ferns sent off.

The lead came Rangers’ way when Waghorn (10) scored, ‘keeper McNeil’s clearance fell to the striker who chested down then volleyed home from 20-yards with Tavernier (14) soon doubled this when his 25-yard freekick brought him his 10th-goal of the season.

Chopra looked to pull one back for Alloa but his effort struck the crossbar, when he got in when Tottenham loanee defender Ball slipped, which wasn’t something he did shortly after as his challenge denied Ferns.

Further Rangers goals could have come before the break, with the third arriving on the stroke of half time when Waghorn (44) was on target again just before the break when he volleyed home number three, which went in off the underside of the bar.

Rangers had other chances after the break, again they couldn’t be taken with Alloa down to 10-men when Ferns went for a lunge on Thompson 10-minutes from time.

The fourth goal did eventually come though in injury-time when Clark (90) headed home.

Victory, which proved an important one as Hibernian had beaten St Mirren to keep up the pressure, sees Rangers maintain a five-point lead at the top of the Championship table.
