Aberdeen captain Anthony Stewart has declared that Antonio Colak is a better striker than Alfredo Morelos having lined up against both players in recent times.

The centre-half was speaking at the press conference ahead of the Viaplay Cup semi-final meeting at Hampden on Sunday but you can’t help get the feeling that he left himself open for some backlash, especially after his errors in the game between the teams at Pittodrie last month.

Stewart was front and centre in the vicinity of Rangers goals when mistakes led to Fashion Sakala’s opener as well as the late, late sucker punch from Scott Arfield.

When asked about the opposition front men, the 30-year old chose not to bat away the question but instead responded:

“For me, they are two completely different strikers. I do rate one better than the other.”

When pushed further, the defender elaborated, “I would say that Colak is a better striker than Morelos, in my opinion. Just (based on) their whole round game. I’ve played against both of them and I can give my opinion on it.”

Now there’s nothing wrong with some honesty and putting forward a contribution but given Colak’s most recent set-back, it is almost certain that the Colombian will lead the line and the comments should be used to inspire the Rangers striker further.

Michael Beale is set to speak to the press tomorrow, as will Jim Goodwin, two days before the Sunday showdown to decide the make-up of the first domestic final of the season. In the other last four decider, Celtic will take on Kilmarnock on Saturday evening whilst the final will take place on Sunday 26 February.
