Reports at the weekend suggested that for all the noise surrounding Rangers links to Joey Veerman, that no official offer had actually been made by the Ibrox outfit.

Ferry de Haan, Heerenveen’s technical director has got tongues wagging on social media though when he revealed that there has now been a second offer and that the club is considering it, he doesn’t name the side who has made the approach which would fit in with Ross Wilson’s modus operandi of doing things covertly.

ESPN via The Daily Record reported on De Haan’s comments in which he gave an update on the 22-year old midfielder’s situation:

“Joey is a Heerenveen player and still has a three-year contract.

“A club has come forward and we have also indicated to Joey that we are looking at it. There is no further news.

“He will have to make his mark here and provide work to be ready for the next step. He will just have to work here.”

The player himself has returned to action and has accepted that until the ball is in his court, that he will have to keep his head down and continue to do his best for Heerenveen:

“I have been doing that (waiting) for three weeks. If there is nothing concrete or Heerenveen is not satisfied, then I am still here.”

It wouldn’t be a surprise if our interest in Veerman has been accelerated due to the uncertainty over Nnamdi Ofoborh‘s future, it could be a short-term issue or it could require an operation, either way, he is unlikely to be available for the Champions League qualifiers.

If we are the unnamed team that De Haan mentions, it’s obviously been an offer worth thinking about for it not to be rejected out of hand, very much a case of watch this space.
