We’d all love our club to find the next Erling Haaland or Giovanni Reyna, a wonderkid with good genes destined to make it at the highest level of football.

There’s also nothing better than a free transfer, especially when they are zero risk, young, and have a proven track record, however, would you take one if their old man had worn green and white in his day job?

Sydney van Hooijdonk is a chip off the old block, standing at over 6ft 3inches tall with a powerful frame, the 21-year old is currently banging the goals in for NAC Breda in the Dutch second division – he is also out of contract at the end of the season.

If you assess Van Hooijdonk on paper there is a lot to like, 14 goals in 26 league games for a start, the sort of form that has attracted attention from England with Nottingham Forest, Swansea and Sheffield United all keeping tabs on him.

He’s very much the modern centre-forward, capable of running the channels and holding the ball up, but also of dominating the penalty box and getting on the end of chances, he can also do this:

The one barrier to any potential move could be Brexit, Van Hooijdonk is playing in the Netherlands which carries some weight, however, because his club are in the second tier he might struggle to make the required points needed to be allowed to play in this country.

Rangers should always be in the market for good, young players that can be developed and sold further down the line for a profit and Van Hooijdonk certainly fits the profile, I’m just not sure I’d be too happy about seeing his dad sitting in our director’s box though…
