At his unveiling as Rangers manager on Monday, Giovanni van Bronckhorst set out his stall as to what the supporters can expect from their team under his leadership.

In a response to one of the questions posed, the Dutchman made clear that he will not accept players not giving their all and that there is no easy route to improvement.

“As you say, work, work, work” – was how he elaborated when asked about his philosophy and influences on his management style, during an impressive presentation to the assembled media in the Blue Room at Ibrox.

During the press conference, Van Bronckhorst added (11.05):

“It starts from working – if you work hard and you have the quality, that makes it easier to win games.”

“I am a coach who is very strict, I like discipline, I think it is very important for the way you behave and the way you play on the pitch, but also I like a very technical style of football.”

Direction

From training, there is a noticeable zip around the drills with the new management team wasting no time in letting the players know what they want, setting expectations in the process.

Ahead of matchday today in the Europa League against Sparta Prague at Ibrox, Rangers TV has provided behind the scenes clips from training over the first couple of days of the new regime and you can tell by how the ball is being knocked around, that the intensity has increased. In particular, the video from yesterday made for very interesting viewing – from the mannerisms and approach of van Bronckhorst to the body language and guidance of Roy Makaay.

That is exactly the direction that is required after the calamity of Sunday at Hampden.

Let’s hope we witness an inspired Rangers team, fired up by the new management team this evening.
