The Union Bears have released a statement slamming the actions and decisions of the Spanish police and the authorities in Seville on Wednesday.

In doing so, an explanation was provided as to why there was no tifo display in the Rangers end of the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.

With clearance being given to Eintracht Frankfurt’s ultras to set up and allow their impressive display, questions have to be asked on the disparity of treatment toward Rangers supporters.

Yet another failure of the authorities on top of everything else more serious with a shocking lack of duty of care putting people in danger without access to water, food as well as medications and sun lotions which had to be discarded, as has been widely acknowledged.

The statement above included:

“All materials had been authorised in advanced and access had been agreed, we thought it was all in hand, liaising with Rangers who then took the information to UEFA and stadium security.”

Disdain

Given the sinking disappointment on the pitch, that should have been the worst aspect of the occasion but it wasn’t.

UEFA, Spanish police and the authorities were all complicit in putting people in very difficult and dangerous positions. These matters were not acceptable and there was no valid reason for refusing the Rangers display either.

As initimated in the statement, it all combines to reflect the disdain and indifference shown to the average supporter yet it is no surprise.

Hopefully, eventually, someday, European football’s governing body can be truly representative, responsible and in touch with the reality of the people who matter most in football – the committed fans. As for the Spanish police, it is just more of the same old same.
