Treble-winning former Rangers manager emerges as shock contender for Scotland job

|

Former Rangers manager Dick Advocaat is interested in the vacant Scotland manager job, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

The national side is currently on the search for a new boss after the sacking of Alex McLeish and the paper report that 71-year-old Advocaat is keen on a return to Scotland, 20 years after winning a domestic treble at Ibrox.

The 1998-99 season is one of the most famous in modern Rangers history, with the Gers sweeping aside all the opposition to secure a famous set of trophies.

Since leaving Ibrox he’s had successful spells at a number of big clubs, also gaining international management experience with Russia, South Korea, Belgium, Serbia and of course the Netherlands.

The Scottish Sun say he has told the Scottish FA he would be willing to work with a young Scottish backroom staff should he be appointed.

It’s an unexpected rumour, but could the veteran manager get Scotland back on its feet and qualify for Euro 2020?
