No sooner have Rangers fans started getting excited about Antonio Colak, a Croatian international striker with nearly 200 goal contributions in his career, then news breaks about Giovanni van Bronckhorst turning to his homeland for one of their hottest properties.

With 36 goals and 9 assists in 44 appearances, Thijs Dallinga is one of the hottest properties in the Netherlands, the 21-year old Excelsior forward attracting interest from across the continent including, it would seem, from Rangers.

French media outlet Foot sur 7 has claimed that Lorient are chasing the Dutch youth cap and that us, alongside Genoa, are also in the hunt:

“Glasgow Rangers also have their sights on the 21-year-old centre-forward and should be FC Lorient’s main competitor in the matter, estimated at just under 5 million euros (£4.25m) according to Calciomercato.

“Genoa and Glasgow Rangers also on Dallinga. The competition will be tough for the Lorient. After such a season, Europe now have watchful eyes on Thijs Dallinga. According to information from the Italian site Calciomercato, Genoa would be one of the suitors for the Dutch prodigy.”

There is no doubt that we need more goals to support our current strikers, a club of our size and stature should never finish the season playing a midfielder up front because we don’t trust the other options in the squad.

A combined £6m for Colak and Dallinga would be a real signal of intent and a return to the days when we always had three or four quality strikers, we should never be inherently weaker if one of them is injured and if Alfredo Morelos goes on a dry spell, there should be no reason to keep playing him knowing that there are goals on the bench.

Because of the way that Rangers conduct their transfer business nowadays, not much escapes the walls of Ibrox or Auchenhowie but, our name must have come from somewhere, it’s a transfer that ticks a lot of boxes and it’s easy to see why we would be interested, hopefully, Dallinga can be the first name through the door in Gio’s Dutch revolution.
