Rangers will be looking to keep the winning feeling going this weekend as we take on Hearts in the Scottish Premiership.

We’ve lost just the once in the league so far this year and that has left us top of the league by two points – and I think we are more than good value for that with the football that we have played under Steven Gerrard.

He’s built a very good squad indeed, and it sounds as though it could have been even better at an early period of his reign.

Indeed, Rafa Benitez has revealed that his former player rang him to enquire about Sean Longstaff.

Via the Athletic, the world-class Spanish manager said:

“In fact, in the summer of last year, Stevie called me about Sean Longstaff.

“Rangers were interested and he asked whether they could sign him on loan, but I told him ‘no’ — he’d be staying at Newcastle United.”

This, of course, was at the start of last season when few would have known about Longstaff but since he has become an established Premier League name and is one of the regulars for Newcastle United.
