With most eyes at the weekend on Rangers’ most recent pre-season friendly as we hosted English Championship side Wigan Athletic at Ibrox – securing a 3-0 victory with goals from Alfredo Morelos, Nikola Katic and an own goal forced by summer signing Umar Sadiq – there was another bit of news.

The draw for the second round of the Betfred Cup was made at the weekend and Rangers now know our future opposition.
We face Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on the weekend of August 17/18 as we look for a pathway through to silverware in 2018/19.
Full draw:
Livingston v Motherwell
Dundee v Ayr United
Dunfermline Athletic v Hearts
Kilmarnock v Rangers
Aberdeen v St Mirren
Partick Thistle v Celtic
Hibernian v Ross County
Queen of the South v St Johnstone
Reaction from Rangers fans on social media to the draw was a mix of sarcastic, humorous and upbeat tweets as fans feel this is a very winnable tie given the current optimism surrounding the club and Steven Gerrard’s appointment. Others were expecting a competitive game after last season.
