Rangers confirmed on Monday afternoon that defender Fabio Cardoso had left the club after his contract was mutually terminated, just 12 months after arriving on a three-year deal.

Heralded as one of Pedro Caixinha’s big signings last summer, he went to make just 18 appearances for the Gers, failing to live up to the standards that supporters expected of him.
He simply wasn’t good enough.
Still, letting him leave for nothing has irked many supporters who feel the club could have have gotten better value out of his exit, especially considering he found a new club less than 24 hours later, joining Portuguese top-flight side Santa Clara.
It’s a disappointing outcome, especially after Bruno Alves also left the club on a free transfer earlier this summer.
The revolving door at Ibrox has seen too many players leave for free, or even with a pay off.
Fans have taken to Twitter over the last couple of days to share their thoughts on it all…
we have let a player go for nothing that cost us over a million pounds this time last year.
Cardoso I can understand if the club can't get a buyer and need wages gone for replacements.
But to throw away 500k fighting a contract that looks like we signed ourselves into? baffling— ULSTER BEAR'S PODCAST (@ulsterbearpod) July 30, 2018

@RangersFC I understand that Gerrard wants to clear the decks and get rid of players he no longer wants but from a business prospective, this doesn't make sense. Terminating the contract of a 24 year old player that signed for ÂŁ1.3m one year ago is crazy. https://t.co/INtMve5RKe

For years now we have struggled to sell players due to bad decisions. Seems clubs now wait until players terminate contracts costing the club money and other clubs fuck all as they get a free player. It’s poor business
