Rangers have been hit with a significant blow with the news that Tom Lawrence has suffered a new injury.

The update came this afternoon from the manager, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, speaking to the press from Anfield ahead of the Champions League encounter with Liverpool.

The Welshman was said to be close to a return, although ruled out for Tuesday’s game, with this fresh setback robbing him of the experience of European football’s elite level as well as Rangers of one of their most creative players.

David Edgar of Heart and Hand podcast was providing information from the press conference.

The timescale indicated suggests an absence of around two to three months from what information is known at present. The away game at St Mirren on 12th November is the last fixture prior to the break with competitive domestic duties resuming after the Qatar tournament on 17th December in what will be a highly anticipated clash with Hibs.

For now and the important run of games in the next few weeks, Gio and the side will have to do without the services of the former Derby County captain who had been a key figure in the first few weeks of the season.

This disappointing news on the eve of a huge game for the club increases the onus on the likes of Scott Arfield, Malik Tillman, Rabbi Matondo and even Scott Wright to make up their contributions in attack to compensate for the loss of the Welsh international until further notice.
