Earlier this week, it was claimed that Rangers were interested in New York City FC’s US international James Sands.

That speculation now appears to be confirmed with a further update from a well placed source across the Atlantic. Tom Bogert is a freelance journalist who writes extensively about MLS to a US audience as well as for other publications stateside and in Europe.

He has spoken specifically regarding Rangers interest as well as confirming that other clubs are tracking the player, as below.

Ready

Now appears to be the time for a deal to be struck, following on from New York City’s MLS Cup victory in early December.

Although just 21, Sands has had serious exposure in the US top flight over the last four years and he appears to be ready to make a move to Europe to commence the next stage of his development.

The player is known to be able to operate in defence as well as midfield, with tenacious qualities as well as being able to insitigate the attacking phase with the ball played out from the back line. It is far from an obvious catch for Rangers, so this potential move remains an intriguing one with Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Ross Wilson set to do business in this transfer window, both ins and outs, to consolidate the Scottish champions squad for the title retention bid in 2022.
