Summer arrival Nikola Katic was an unexpected signing when news broke of a deal for the former Slaven Belupo centre-half.

The 21-year-old Croatian international defender became Steven Gerrard’s fifth signing of the summer as the 6ft 4in youngster signed a four-year deal at Ibrox. The signing was largely greeted with much delight amongst the fanbase as his background implied he more than had his head screwed on despite his tender age.

Unexpected Croatian Talent Makes The Step Up For Rangers – Brighton Defender Will Have To Follow

With former Brighton centre-half, Connor Goldson, following quickly as the 25-year-old became our sixth signing of the summer many wondered if they would form the heart of our defence in the coming campaign and Katic has certainly implied that this may be Gerrard’s plan as he spoke to club press during the ten-day training camp out in Spain.

The Official Site have Katic praising the work that was done out on the training pitch and speaking positivity about his welcome by the squad as he adjusts to his new surroundings and colleagues, and as well as continuing to say all the right things about his move to the club – describing it as a ‘once in a lifetime chance’ in his career – he also spoke positively about how he was working with Goldson as we prepare for the Europa League tie in a fortnight’s time.

“It is brilliant out here in Spain; we have done some really great work out here with the coaches. We have been worked hard every day and have prepared well for next season. Here we play really fast but we need to prepare quickly for the European games. I met Connor on my first day here and he really helped me. I think we can do well together. We are prepared to play a really forward line with great pressure.”

Katic went on to say that obviously Goldson was a good player with Premier League experience under his belt, but despite the age difference between the two he felt they could ‘play well together’ in the coming year.

Quite a few Rangers fans were pleased to read into the interview.
