With Nathan Patterson away you would expect other rumours about Rangers players to die down, however, if recent speculation is anything to go by we could be in for a disappointment.

One player who has never been far away from the back pages is Ianis Hagi, the Romanian international an almost ever present under Giovanni van Bronckhorst and has been linked with a move to Lyon just a matter of weeks ago.

There is news on Hagi’s future though, not quite from the horses mouth but pretty close, from his dad Georghe, as reported by The Daily Record

“By the way, that’s what I heard and I think it’s from a reliable source, that they want to renew the contract.

“Not as it is written in the press here. He played very well.

“He had an extraordinary year, very good, he is appreciated there and from good sources I think they want to renew the contract.”

Hagi under GVB is a great example of how frustrating he can be as a player, his numbers haven’t been great this season, and yet, in recent weeks he could easily have had an assist every game – he will invariably create at least one big chance every game.

The problem is his best position is where our current in-form player is playing – Joe Aribo.

But, if his last game is anything to go by, when Aribo is representing his country at the African Cup of Nations, we could finally see Hagi get a run at number 10 and a real chance to show his full potential, being stuck on the wing doesn’t do him any favours despite how hard he grafts.

As Calvin Bassey has shown, playing for Rangers is always about seizing your opportunity when it comes along, let’s see if Hagi can take his and potentially earn himself a few more pounds in the process.
