It’s been a long season, but it’s also been a tremendous year of progression and hope. For the first time in a while, the Gers have been in with a chance of winning the Scottish top flight title, and that’s more than can be said of our form previously.

Even now, most Rangers fans are looking to retain hope that our title challenge is still ongoing, and given that it is still mathematically possible, it’s important that we don’t lose that faith.

However, that hasn’t stopped pundits given their verdict on the matter, and it’s fair to say that the Daily Record’s panel isn’t giving us much of a chance.

A handful of Daily Record pundits have been delivering their view on whether Rangers still have a chance at title glory, and the responses are pretty glum.

For example, Keith Jackson said: ‘Rangers may not have lost any ground at the weekend but when they let two points skip away at Easter Road on Friday night they surrendered their last hopes of swiping Celtic’s crown.’ This is a view that is largely shared by the panel.

Clearly, Jackson isn’t very confident, but is he right? Well, at this stage, it’s looking difficult. We’re currently 8 points off Celtic, and whilst our form generally in 2019 has been good, inconsistency has been a real issue. We can look like an unbeatable machine one week, but we often let our foot off the gas the week after.

Fortunately, with players like Alfredo Morelos, we’ve always got a chance. But even if we don’t win the title this year, we can still look back on the 2018/19 campaign with pride and joy. It’s been a fantastic season so far, and though our expectations have changed over the course of the year, we’ve certainly surpassed our hopes from before the season started.

If nothing else, we’ve given ourselves the perfect platform for a more developed and sustained title challenge next season  – and no pundit can take that away from us.
