Fashion Sakala is expected to keep his starting jersey as Rangers face Livingston in the League Cup quarter-final at Ibrox.

The former Oostende man impressed against Motherwell not only with his headed opener from Joe Aribo’s assist, but his general movement, application and tenacity was appreciated by the Rangers supporters.

It is clear to see that the attacker is still rough around the edges in terms of his current output, but enough has been seen already to state that Rangers have a gem to polish and develop.

But for some composure and a bit more know-how, Sakala could have helped himself to a second goal given the other chances that came his way, however he will be looking to pick up from where he left off against the Steelmen, in order to fire his team to another Hampden appearance in the quest for silverware.

The 24-year old faced the media at the pre-match press conference yesterday and amongst other questions, he revealed how he was settling in at Ibrox and loving the experience so far.

He feels that he is ready to contribute but still has plenty to learn and interestingly, he went on to speak about his status as a role model in his native Zambia, the importance of representing his nation and how his fans are now able to watch Scottish Premiership games on TV, such is their demand for their man and his exploits following the move to Glasgow:

“The dream is always to play for my national team and I think it’s a very important honour to play for the national team.”

Looking at the situation now with Covid, it is a little bit difficult because Zambia is a red zone country. I can’t go to Zambia now to play games there, but we have one game in Equatorial Guinea and I can go there because it is green zone and I can go there to play one game.”

“This is something where the good work needs to start at the club. I need to make sure that here I am performing and working hard and getting the results – If I keep on working well here then it will be easier for me to play for the national team.”

Sakala then added on the new-found exposure for Rangers and the SPFL Premiership on the African continent:

“Before I came here, we didn’t have the Scottish league in Zambia (TV coverage) but immediately after I signed here, they gave us the access to the games so they always watch when we are playing here.”

Determined

Quite simply, Fashion Sakala will give everything to be a success at Rangers.

He is head-strong, confident, grounded and humble with a desire to improve and succeed.

Fastened by his faith and a young family, it won’t be for the want of trying if the Zambian doesn’t make it, at Ibrox.

Already he has shown glimpses of talent and hunger which if honed and enhanced, could end up as a very important asset for the Scottish champions.
