Northern Ireland international Steven Davis was linked with a possible return to Ibrox over the summer but there were plenty of concerns over his fitness levels as he last took to the pitch for current side Southampton last April.
The 101 capped international made his first appearance for the South Coast side yesterday evening as they faced Brighton and Hove Albion in their EFL Cup fixture, and with a 1-0 victory and Davis getting all 90 minutes under his belt as he returned from a hamstring problem, he took to social media himself to celebrate.
Nice to be back out on the pitch and get 90 minutes tonight!! In the hat for the next round ????????

The 33-year-old only has 12 months remaining on his deal at St Mary’s Stadium and plenty of fans were pleading with him to make the return up north six years after his initial departure.

There were plenty more comments from fans hoping for a reunion but this is one I can’t see happening really.
He’s well-loved at Southampton as you’d expect and he appears to continue to be in manager Mark Hughes’ plans, but if a new deal isn’t agreed by January then maybe we can possibly look at next summer – but I’d imagine Steven Gerrard has other ideas given the more youthful angle he’s largely taken on deals so far this summer.
