Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has confirmed winger Ryan Kent has an injury issue ahead of this week’s trip to face Rapid Vienna in the UEFA Europa League.

Kent has missed the last month or so of action with a hamstring problem but made his return against Dundee on Sunday, performing well in the first half before being substituted at half-time.

Gerrard stated it was a fitness issue rather than tactical after the match and he will now be assessed before the squad travel to Austria in an attempt to secure knockout European football.

As quoted by The Daily Record, the Rangers boss said: “He’s got an issue I think. We’ll have to check it out. We’re hoping it’s just precaution but he felt some discomfort so we had to take him off.”

Losing Kent would be a major blow to our attacking threat on Thursday night, with the team showing little creativity in the second half at Dens Park today.

The 22-year-old has been one of the signing success stories at the club this season and has the ability to score or assist in tight, difficult matches.

Hopefully the manager can confirm later this week that his substitution was a case of safer than sorry and he can take part in Thursday night’s massive fixture.
