Manager Ally McCoist has praised the performance of goalkeeper Cammy Bell in the game against Ayr United yesterday as he pulled off a string of fantastic save to keep Rangers in the game, and secure another clean sheet for himself and us this season.

Our keeper pulled off a number of stops in the first half as Rangers again had to wait until the second half before we got ourselves in front. Goals from Nicky Law and Jon Daly ultimately gave us a two nil win, but had it not been for Bell the scoreline could’ve been a lot different.

Speaking to the Official Site following the match, McCoist was very quick indeed to praise our goalkeeper for his efforts.

‘He’s made a few great saves and he’s doing really well for us Cammy. That’s another clean sheet and he should be very proud of that. That was as good a performance as you will see from any keeper in the country I would think. He’s been top class and looking back at history Rangers’ goalkeepers have always been called upon to make saves at crucial times. He did that today and speaking to Andy Goram (Ayr United’s goalkeeping coach) after the game he thought Cammy was very good, so that’s praise indeed.’

Despite Bell keeping us in it and giving us the chance to go ahead deadlocked at nil nil, McCoist was also pleased with the overall performance of the players even though we couldn’t get our noses in front early on, as he felt we dealt well with a tricky playing surface and we especially dealt well with the absence of Lee McCulloch and Bilel Mohsni in the centre of defence.

‘I was delighted with Emilson and Seb. Big Kevin Kyle can be a handful and especially in the second half it was important we didn’t drop back and allow them to put it into the box. I was delighted with the two of them as well as Richard. But that’s a great result for us today and it’s a tough place to come, it’s a brilliant three points.’

McCoist says he doesn’t know if we would’ve lost that kind of game 12 months ago, but he knows we now have a lot more about us this season and he feels we are definitely on an upward curve again performance level wise although he admits we still have further to go on that score and that’s what the focus will be on in coming games.
