Unlikely, unrealistic, outlandish. It is all that and more but current Maccabi Haifa manager Barak Bakhar has been linked with a move to Rangers.

From the outset, it is very important to state that Giovanni van Bronckhorst is the present manager at Ibrox and until that situation changes, speculation has to be kept in context.

This link has emanted from a discussion on Israeli TV, which appears to be a rather random look at where the next assignment for Bakhar could be, following his existing role in Haifa. Bakhar’s Maccabi top their domestic championship after 10 games played whilst in their Champions League campaign, they recorded a win over struggling Juventus in Group H with their other five games resulting in defeats and a fourth place finish.

The link to Ibrox was mentioned in the same breath as Benfica, PSG, the Premier League and Steven Gerrard with former West Ham and Celtic player Eyal Berkovich conversing with Eli Ohana:

“Benfica is the best team in the country in terms of football, the most balanced. Paris is more fun. Becker for Rangers? Scottish football is weak, two clubs. You are close to England and if you succeed you can pass like Steven Gerrard, but it is not easy to live in Glasgow with the children. Every coach at Maccabi Haifa will be first or second place.”

Ohana then added further comments but the exact context does not come across easily in the translation of the content from Sport5

It will be interesting to see what, if anything, comes further from this link but it seems extremely difficult to fathom that any actual contact would have been made from Rangers toward the 43-year old coach.
