Former England international striker, Darren Bent has expressed his surprise that Everton haven’t made a move for Rangers on-fire hitman, Alfredo Morelos in an interview with Football Insider.

The Toffees are struggling for goals this season with just 13 in 12 fixtures so far and Bent feels that Morelos could be the man to lift them up the table.

So what did Bent say?

Bent was asked if the Colombian international would be a decent signing for Everton and he replied:

“I’m surprised Everton don’t try to go and sign him”.

“He’s a bit temperamental, but he can score goals, he’s got that great ability and to be fair to Rangers if they can go and get a load of money for him, let’s say £20m+ for him, they’ve still got, Jermain Defoe who gets goals week-in-week-out”.

So is Bent right?

At this moment in time, Morelos would be a good signing for most teams in world football except those at the higher end of elite club level.

Not only does he have 22 goals in 26 Rangers appearances this season but he has just scored his first international goal at the weekend for Colombia.

His international goal added to the ones he has scored against Midtjylland, Legia Warsaw and Porto demonstrates that he is capable at scoring at the highest level and under the intense scrutiny of Ibrox in front of 50,000 fans every other week.

Bent mentions Morelos’ temperament but this season has seen a marked improvement in his maturity, he has just one domestic yellow card to his name compared to his record last season of two red and eight yellows in total at the same point.

Would Everton be a good move for Morelos?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Morelos would be a great signing for Everton as he is capable of creating his own chances from nothing and holding up the play to bring others into the attack, but given his ability to rise to the big occasions, he may feel that would be better served waiting for a club that regularly competes for trophies and in Europe. Whilst he is getting picked for Colombia and scoring goals in Europe, he will be in no rush to leave such an adoring support.
