BT Sport pundit and former Celtic striker Chris Sutton believes the business Rangers and the Hoops do this January could determine who ends up winning the Scottish Premiership.

The two sides clash next weekend at Ibrox in a mammoth clash, but it could be the transfer manoeuvres next month that truly see either side pull away from the rest of the competition.

Sutton believes that the Gers reported pursuit of Liverpool forward Dominic Solanke could be huge, especially if Celtic fail to make progress of their own when the window opens.

As quoted by The Daily Record, he said:

The finances of the game make that tough now but they still need to push the boat out for a top drawer hitman. The title is the gateway to the Champions League and they simply cannot afford to chuck it away.

Never mind this week’s big games, the Premiership could be won and lost in January.

If Rangers find the cash to bring in someone like Dominic Solanke and Celtic dither again, they will pay the ultimate price.

The challenge from Ibrox is real.

Solanke would undoubtedly be a quality addition to the Rangers side and could reboot an attack which has relied too heavily on Colombian striker Alfredo Morelos this season.

If Gerrard could find a way to play both in his starting eleven, there’s unlikely to be a defence in the country that could cope.

That Sutton is running scared of the Gers is a great sign for our prospects in the second half of the season.
